Where should you give to support cancer research?

It is the time of year again when all the creeps creep out of the wood
work and try to separate you from your money. They send me stamps and
calendars and cards made by people with no hands.I have pictures of
puppies and children with no parents. They are all asking me to
contribute to the fund raisers wages and a questionable promise that
some of the money will actually be used for the purpose that they say
they represent. Cancer is an easy target because there is hardly a
family that has not faced cancer. Lurkers come alive. You must have
an opinion on where to send your money to help in the research and
support of families faced with cancer.

The Cancer Societies in Canada seems to be a safe place to contribute
where I live. Service clubs like the Shriners do great work in
providing family support and transportation. This is my contribution
to this newsgroup.

And I for one thank you for it. You're right; there are a lot of scams
out there, pretending to collect money to fight one problem or another
(including cancer, poverty, you name it) while actually just funding the
people collecting the money. I support the National Multiple Sclerosis
Society, as they seem to have a good record of spending little on overhead
and much on research. Anyone wanting to help a cause should look
carefully at where the money goes first.
